YI Baolian

Academician YI Baolian is a researcher of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics (DICP) of ChineseAcademyof Sciences (CAS), chief engineer of fuel cell engineering center, president of Dalian Sunrise Power Co., Ltd., panelist of State 863 Major Special Projects of Electric Automobile and responsible expert of fuel cell engine.  In 2003, he was elected as an academician ofChineseAcademyof Engineering (CAE).

Academician YI Baolian is mainly occupied in the research and development of mutual transformation between chemical energy and electric energy and related fields.  In 1970s, he took part in and led the research on aerospace alkaline fuel cell system; in 1980s, he applied fuel cell technology to the energy saving of aqueous solution electrolysis industry and electrochemical sensors; in 1990s, as the principal in tackling key scientific and technological problems during “the ninth Five-Year plan” of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) and Fuel Cell Technology, a major project of CAS, he organized and led the researches on proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC), molten carbonate fuel cell and solid oxide fuel cell, which achieved breakthrough in the technology of PEMFC and formed proprietary intellectual property rights; he actively promoted DICP to jointly establish Sunrise Power Co., Ltd. with domestic enterprises, so as to develop the volume production technology and exploit markets; during the period of “the tenth Five-Year plan”, he organized the development of 30-100kW automobile fuel cell engine with the help of fuel cell engineering center and Sunrise Power Co., Ltd.,

He has successively won seven state and provincial-level awards, obtained 22 patents and published 124 papers on domestic and foreign academic journals. He has written and published a monograph on fuel cell Fuel Cell Theory, Technology and Application and supervised 30 post doctorates, doctors and masters in succession.
